A visual product configurator is an easy and interactive way for customers of an ecommerce site to configure and bundle products in one place. For example, your customers may be buying an industrial drill or a pair of running shoes. A configurator helps the customer build a product bundle that fits their needs, like pairing the right charging cable with the right drill or recommending an entire cold-weather outfit to match the shoes.
Using product configurators on your website ensures customers can find products that are compatible with each other without being experts or doing a lot of research. It also helps brands to capitalize on upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
This is what several of our customers tried and failed to do. Bosch is one example. They spent years and lots of money trying to build their own product configurators. They faced a lot of obstacles when creating the configurator, including cleaning their product data, making proper associations, finding a platform for the configurator, and designing it. By the end of the project, costs had spiraled. To make matters worse, the configurator was ineffective and maintaining it was costly and time-consuming.
This is one example of how difficult it is to create a visual product configurator from scratch. That’s why Zoovu was built. We’ve been building product discovery experiences for over 15 years. Our platform is designed to build configurators and handle the quantity and complexity of the data and maintenance that comes with it.
If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. Most companies we work with struggle with fragmented, incomplete, inconsistent, and siloed data. Zoovu was built to solve this problem. It uses AI to collect product data from various sources (like PDFs, webpages, reviews, and PIMs), clean it, and standardize it.
Instead of hiring entire teams to constantly review and tag thousands of SKUs, Zoovu’s AI automates the process so it can be done in a few hours. Every time a new product or variation is added or updated, the change is automatically reflected in Zoovu, so maintaining your catalog is easy. This data can be exported to your other business systems so multiple departments can work with a single source of data.
Having said all that, you can rest assured that your data will be in great condition to create a visual product configurator when you use Zoovu. This means having all your product data in one place, standardized, and enriched so you can make accurate and relevant associations between products.
It depends. I know that’s probably not the straightforward answer you want, but there are a couple of variables that determine how long it takes for our customers to build and launch product configurators.
The first is the complexity and quality of your product data. The second is the resources available to design, create, test, and deploy the configurator. While those are the two biggest variables, there are others that could impact your time to market, including if there are any integrations needed and the complexity of the configurator itself.
If your data is relatively simple and clean, if your configurator is visually and logically simple, and if you can dedicate lots of time to the project, it can take two to four weeks. For projects with lots of complex and disjointed data, with few resources available, it may take longer than four weeks to launch.
Security is our number-one priority when it comes to your data and the data of your customers. Zoovu is Soc 2 Type 2 certified, the most globally recognized and stringent certification when it comes to securely managing customer data. All data provided by your customers is anonymous to Zoovu—we don’t have access to data about an individual that interacts with a Zoovu configurator, meaning your customers are guaranteed privacy. Zoovu is also GDPR compliant.
